Baklava using local Honey

Equipment

  • 1 small bowl used to melt butter
  • 1 large knife to chop nuts
  • 1 8 x 11 pan
  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 set measuring cups
  • 1 set measuring spoons
  • 1 pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 40 sheets phyllo dough
  • 1 lb butter
  • 1 cup walnuts chopped
  • 1 cup pistachios chopped
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon

Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup local honey
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F
  • Layer sheets one at a time. Melt butter and brush between each. Add walnuts, pistachios and cinnamon and layer in the middle 5 layers.
  • After finishing the layers, make simple syrup. Boil water and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add honey and vanilla. Turn to low and allow to simmer 20 minutes
  • Cut baklava into squares. Cook baklava in oven for 45 minutes
  • Remove from heat ad immediately pour simple syrup over top
  • Allow to sit five hours - Eat!
