Plantain/Dandelion Chapped Lip Balm

Equipment

  • 1 double boiler
  • 3 glass pint jar
  • 1 kitchen scale need to be set to oz or gr
  • 24 lip balm tubes with lids can use lip balm holder
  • 1 newspaper used to cover crafting area to prevent spills
  • 2 plastic pipettes used to measure and drop essential oils

Materials

  • 8 oz olive oil or grapeseed oil
  • .5 oz kokum butter
  • .25 oz shea butter
  • 5 oz castor oil
  • .5 oz local beeswax
  • 1/4 tsp vitamin E oil
  • 15 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 30 drops rosemary essential oil

Instructions

Infusing oil

  • Split up 8oz oil in half and put 1/2 in one pint jar and the other 1/2 in 2nd pint jar
  • Add dried dandelion flowers to one pint jar and add dried plantain leaves into 2nd pint jar
  • place in water in double boiler and simmer for 30 min
  • let cool
  • strain out dandelions and plantain and then use 1 oz of each for lip balm
  • Another way to infuse but takes time is to add dried ingredients to oil, place lid over and store in out of way place for 6-8 weeks or in a sunny window for 2-4 weeks

Lip Balm

  • put beeswax and strained oil in 3rd, clean pint jar and place in double boiler and melt
  • Stir in kokum butter, shea butter, castor oil until melted
  • let cool for 1-3 minutes and stir in vitamin e and essential oil
  • fill lip balm tubes
