Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 2 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup nuts can be pecan or walnuts, lightly toasted
  • 1/2 cup raisins optional, try soaking in rum for extra fun flavor

Instructions

  • Pre-heat over to 350 degrees
  • Cream shortening
  • Add honey gradually, creaming after each addition
  • Sift dry ingredients together
  • Add to creamed mixture the dry ingredients alternately with applesauce
  • Fold in nuts and raisins
  • Pour batter into well greased 9x9x2 inch pan
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes
