Challah Bread with Honey
Equipment
- 1 mixer with dough attachment
- 1 mixing bowl
- 1 spatula
- 1 set of measuring cups
- 1 set of measuring spoons
- 1 kitchen towel
- 1 large, flat baking sheet
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup milk, minus 1 tablespoon
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 eggs (beaten) at room temperature,
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 cup flour
- 1 1/2 tsp yeast
Bread Egg Wash
- 1 egg (beaten) room temperature
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
Bread
- Mix ingredients to form a dough
- Mix with dough hook 5-7 minutes until dough smooth and satiny
- Put dough on a lightly floured surface
- Divide the dough into 3 equal pieces
- Roll and stretch piece into a long, slender rope
- Put all 3 ropes on a baking sheet and braid the 3 ropes together
- Cover the bread and let rise in a warm, draft-free location for 1 to 1 1/2 hours
Egg wash and baking
- After the bread has finished rising, brush with egg wash mixture, sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional)
- Bake 20 to 25 minutes in a preheated 325 degree F oven until golden
