Challah Bread with Honey

Equipment

  • 1 mixer with dough attachment
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 set of measuring cups
  • 1 set of measuring spoons
  • 1 kitchen towel
  • 1 large, flat baking sheet

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup milk, minus 1 tablespoon
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 eggs (beaten) at room temperature,
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp yeast

Bread Egg Wash

  • 1 egg (beaten) room temperature
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions
 

Bread

  • Mix ingredients to form a dough
  • Mix with dough hook 5-7 minutes until dough smooth and satiny
  • Put dough on a lightly floured surface
  • Divide the dough into 3 equal pieces
  • Roll and stretch piece into a long, slender rope
  • Put all 3 ropes on a baking sheet and braid the 3 ropes together
  • Cover the bread and let rise in a warm, draft-free location for 1 to 1 1/2 hours

Egg wash and baking

  • After the bread has finished rising, brush with egg wash mixture, sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional)
  • Bake 20 to 25 minutes in a preheated 325 degree F oven until golden
