Last year, MSBA had the privilege to welcome Dr. Humberto Boncristiani to discuss his deep research into small hive beetle and the challenge of control. He is now offering an online, dynamic, and collaborative new channel of communication for beekeepers and beekeeping groups, InsideTheHiveTV.
He explains, "'Inside the Hive.TV' is a place where I will attempt to continue sharing my knowledge as a scientist in a very relaxed and entertaining (hopefully) way. I hope that by using the power of the internet, I will be able to multiply the help I myself have received in huge proportions, reaching people all over the world. Here we will discuss topics about bees, educating bee enthusiasts, beekeepers (commercial or not) and everybody else interested in this magnificent insect."
Dr. Boncristiani is the honey bee husbandry applied researcher at the University of Florida Honey Bee Research and Extension Lab. He has a diverse background in honey bee research, having worked in a government institutions (USDA, Army), Academia (UNCG, UMD), private industry, with the National Research Council, and having come from a beekeeping family. At the Honey Bee Research and Extension Lab, Boncristiani conducts honey bee husbandry research that is directly applicable to commercial beekeeper operations in the state of Florida and across the country.
He has set up a platform to access a wide range of materials on Patreon, with options for individuals and clubs to receive anything from access to a large library of materials to individual consultations to club presentations. You can preview much of this work on his YouTube Channel.
His videos are informative and fun on a number of levels, whether interviewing the latest developers of high tech hive monitoring tools, to a hypothesis that might help explain the mysterious behavior of washboarding!
The DC Beekeepers Alliance was proud to sign up as an early supporter of this program.
