Spiced Honey Nuts
Snack of nuts with honey and sweet spices - makes 1 pound
Equipment
- 1 sifter
- 1 mixing bowl
- 1 spatula
- 1 set measuring cups
- 1 set measuring spoons
- 1 whisk
- 1 glass jar used to store nuts
Ingredients
- 3 cup sifted confectioners sugar
- 3 tsp cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp nutmet
- 1 1/2 tsp allspice
- 1 egg white, unbeaten
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 4 cup assorted nuts, walnuts, almonds, pecans
Instructions
- Sift sugar and spices together 3 times
- Spread half of the mixture 1/4" thick on baking sheet or shallow pan
- Place egg white, honey and salt in bowl and beat until mixed but not foamy
- Add nuts and stir until coated
- Place nuts on sugar mixture, one at a time, top side up, 1/4" apart
- Cover evenly with remaining sugar mixture
- Set pan inside another baking sheet or pan and bake at 250 degrees for 1 1/2 hours
- A very low temperature oven is necessary to make nuts crisp and to prevent them from becoming too brown
- Remove nuts immediately and brush off excess sugar
- Cool
- Store in airtight glass jar
