Spiced Honey Nuts

Snack of nuts with honey and sweet spices - makes 1 pound

Equipment

  • 1 sifter
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 set measuring cups
  • 1 set measuring spoons
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 glass jar used to store nuts

Ingredients

  • 3 cup sifted confectioners sugar
  • 3 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp nutmet
  • 1 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1 egg white, unbeaten
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 4 cup assorted nuts, walnuts, almonds, pecans

Instructions

  • Sift sugar and spices together 3 times
  • Spread half of the mixture 1/4" thick on baking sheet or shallow pan
  • Place egg white, honey and salt in bowl and beat until mixed but not foamy
  • Add nuts and stir until coated
  • Place nuts on sugar mixture, one at a time, top side up, 1/4" apart
  • Cover evenly with remaining sugar mixture
  • Set pan inside another baking sheet or pan and bake at 250 degrees for 1 1/2 hours
  • A very low temperature oven is necessary to make nuts crisp and to prevent them from becoming too brown
  • Remove nuts immediately and brush off excess sugar
  • Cool
  • Store in airtight glass jar
